Reiki mastery is the third and final level of western traditional reiki. It is the teaching level of reiki. A traditional teaching master of the Usui System of Natural Healing or reiki is one who has been trained in the original traditions of the practice and is absolutely committed to teaching traditional reiki at least half-time.  Traditional reiki mastery involves a one-on-one apprenticeship with the traditional reiki master over a period of at least one year and in our practice up to six years. In traditional reiki the master's process is truly a life altering event for both the initiating master and the master candidate.

The fee set by Hawayo Takata for the traditional master's initiation was $10,000. A very large energy exchange indeed! The largeness of this amount has  pushed more than a few  people to take a look at their prosperity issues. We believe that far too much has been made of it. The controversy surrounding money and the traditional reiki master's initiation appears less about the monetary value of the traditional reiki master's initiation, and more about the nature, extent and availability of prosperity in the universe and fear of lack. The core issue is commitment to traditional reiki as a healing practice.

There is currently no lack of publication -- on the web and in books -- of reiki 2 and master symbols of varying degrees of accuracy. We suggest that self-initiation as a reiki master, while not impossible, is unlikely. What is usually required is the confluence in time and space of reiki symbols, reiki mantra, an initiating master capable of transmitting the energetic essence of reiki mastery and a master's candidate ready to receive it. For us the reiki master's commitment is based on a personal relationship between reiki master's candidate and initiating master that is ongoing.  A cumulative deposit of  $5,000 is required in most cases prior to the master's initiation. You can certainly take advantage of what is offered as reiki master's training for a commitment of less money or energy elsewhere. It is not likely though that you will be initiated as a traditional reiki master in the exchange.  We encourage you to have the courage to engage in a an honest and personal conversation with us about traditional reiki mastery, both its benefits and its costs.
