What is Reiki? Reiki is a generic term for an Usui System of Natural Reiki Healing. Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese word meaning universal life energy. This energy is the natural, vital force found in all life. Both Usui systems of Reiki Healing, among them Usui Shiki Ryoho of the Reiki Alliance and the Japanese Jikiden Reiki Kenkyukai (Japanese Reiki Institute) Usui Reiki Ryoho methods are hands on and distant spiritual practices that attune and develp the natural latent human self-healing energy. Reiki balances body, mind, heart and spirit in a structured way thour light, gentle, non-intrusive, non-manipulative touch and compassionate regard. Reiki is easy to learn, easy to use, centering and calming. Reiki is not a religion, but a spiritual meditation with ethical principles and both a history and a present. Reiki improves quality of life and an individual's sense of well-being. While every person response to Reiki is unique, at the end of a Reiki treatment most people relate that they feel both relaxed and energized at the same time -- like after a good massage. But unlike a massage the body is not manipulated and no oils, creams, or lotions or removal of clothing is necessary.
